About Debbie

Currently, you’ll find me:

  • private tutoring individuals with reading and writing challenges, first grade through high school. I help homeschoolers with their entire ELA curriculum. I work with schooled children to supplement the skills they are taught in school, to give them the tools to progress faster than they would without the extra strategy learning. Learn more on the private tutoring tab.

  • teaching private or semi-private writing sessions to young fiction authors or essay writers, to develop the skills they need and the goals they want to reach. Learn more on the home page.

I’ve been teaching in some capacity since I was a teen (started with photography, then other art classes through the town’s recreation department) and apparently, I can’t stop! Sharing what inspires me and encouraging children and teens to grow as confident, independent learners is an addiction (though it vies with dark chocolate …) that I’m happy to keep.

My master's degree is in elementary education, and for the last 30 years, I’ve been a classroom teacher, literacy/Reading Recovery teacher, teacher trainer, and private tutor.

I homeschooled my son for over eight years, taught homeschool classes out of my dining room, and ran book clubs in my living room. The highlight of my homeschool career (other than being with my son everyday, of course!) was co-founding LACI Homeschoolers' Association in Shrewsbury and serving as Vice President of Programming while I was a board member. My son headed off to high school in the fall of 2019 and has since graduated, but I'm still a homeschooler at heart (just other people's kids now).
